European Energy is working with Danish utility Sonderborg Forsyning to develop a 160MW nearshore wind farm.

The Little Belt South wind farm will enable the Sonderborg Municipality to achieve the City Council’s ProjectZero vision of CO2 neutrality in 2029.

European Energy is adding the “necessary competencies” to the maximum 160MW wind farm to be developed by the company Lillebaelt Vind.
A final partnership agreement with European Energy is expected in place before the end of the year.

Sonderborg mayor Erik Lauritzen said: “It is a win-win situation for both parties”, who is also chairman of Lillebaelt Vind.

He added: “While the state sets the framework for climate change, it is often the municipalities and the private companies that carry out the tasks with concrete initiatives.

“It is necessary for Denmark to be able to achieve our goals in the green transition, and the agreement helps to push the green transition.”

The realisation of the project depends on an updated environmental impact assessment being approved by the Danish Energy Agency, followed by the issuing of a permit.

European Energy CEO Knud Erik Andersen said: “We look forward to working with Sonderborg Forsyning to ensure the city the CO2-neutral electricity that will support the area’s climate change until 2029.

“We are very pleased that Sonderborg Municipality demands our expertise in renewable energy projects, which we have a extensive experience of implementing all the way from design to grid connection.”
