In 2022, a final site choice for the Staric site near the Polish border is expected.
Gravitricity, a Scottish energy storage company, is looking into the possibility of converting an old Czech coal mine into an energy storage plant with a capacity of up to 8MW.
Gravitricity is looking into a number of locations around Europe, including a recent visit to the Staric mine in Czechia’s Moravian Silesian area, where six deep mining sites were formally transferred into a post-mining phase earlier this year.
The Staric mine is part of a huge coal field that stretches beyond the Polish border.
The mining shaft stretches for nearly a kilometer underground.
