Hitachi ABB Power Grids have secured a deal to supply Andritz Hydro with technology for grid connection and stabilisation for a 250MW pumped storage hydroelectric power plant in the UAE.
The company will deliver two AC excitation systems, based on power electronic converters, to the Hatta station, which is under construction in the Hajar Mountains, 140-km southeast of the city of Dubai.
An integrated solution to connect the plant to DEWA’s 132 kV network is also part of the deal.
The station is being developed by the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) and when commissioned in early 2024 will be the first of its kind in the Arabian Gulf region.
“We are honoured to be part of the development of the Arabian Gulf’s first hydropower plant,” said Niklas Persson, Hitachi ABB Power Grids’ grid integration business managing director.
“Hitachi ABB Power Grids can deliver engineered packages as well as advanced solutions to support the Emirate’s sustainability goals, accelerating the energy transition towards a carbon-neutral future with technologies that will benefit society.”
