Sunrise Wind HVDC contract is taken up by Aker

Orsted and Eversource have signed a NOK3 billion contract for an 880MW US project

Orsted and Eversource have awarded Aker Solutions a contract to construct the HVDC (high-voltage, direct current) transmission system for the 880MW Sunrise Wind offshore wind project in the United States.

Sunrise Wind is New York’s first offshore wind farm, and when finished, it will generate enough electricity to power almost 600,000 households.

According to Aker’s Q3 2021 earnings, the deal is valued more than NOK3 billion (€0.3 billion).

Aker Solutions had revenues of NOK7.3 billion and EBITDA of NOK 459 million in the third quarter, excluding exceptional items.

This corresponded to a 6.3 percent EBITDA margin and NOK0.22 in profits per share.

“We produced another excellent quarter indicating that we stay on track with our growth ambitions and our transformation path,” stated Aker Solutions CEO Kjetel Digre.

“Our confidence in our full-year financial outlook is bolstered by third-quarter results that demonstrate ongoing strength in operational performance.

“We had our sixth straight quarter of above 1.0x book-to-bill order intake. This lays a solid platform for more involvement in the future.

“Another significant trend is that we continue to get orders for energy transition-related work, which now accounts for more than 30% of our orderbook.

“We anticipate increasing market activity in all sectors where we are relevant in the future.”

“Aker Solutions is well positioned to seize the possibilities that lie ahead.”
