A planned offshore wind farm in Ireland is located 13-22 kilometers off the coast of County Wicklow.

The project certification for the 1500MW Codling Wind Park project, one of Ireland’s largest offshore wind farms, has been awarded to DNV.

Codling Wind Park is a proposed offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea, located between Greystones and Wicklow Town in an area known as Codling Bank, some 13-22 kilometers off the coast of County Wicklow.

“Excellent wind speeds in the Irish Sea, combined with favorable shoreline conditions, make offshore wind an excellent setting for generating electricity,” said Kim Sandgaard-Mork, DNV’s executive vice president for renewables certification.
“By combining this resource with safe and dependable offshore wind projects, Ireland can become a global leader in renewable energy generation.

Sandgaard-Mork said, “Having been engaged in over 80% of offshore wind farm certification projects globally, we are delighted to help Codling Wind Park and Ireland in achieving the ambitious objectives.”

“The development of the project is a big undertaking, backed by numerous parties,” said Rob Sheldon, engineering manager at Codling Wind Park.

“We are thrilled to welcome DNV on board as a member of our team. DNV’s worldwide knowledge and expertise will enable us to confidently navigate our way to certification.

“The Codling Wind Park will be built to the highest standards, and we are looking forward to delivering a project that will supply locally produced renewable power to up to 1.2 million Irish homes.”

EDF Renewables and Fred Olsen Renewables have partnered 50:50 to build Codling Wind Park.
